On the 14th February 2022 we will release our debut single, ‘Warsaw Skyline’. The single is taken from our forthcoming LP, ‘The Edge of the Conversation’, available on both vinyl and digital on the 4th April.
The single is a haunting love ballad, half composed in the Polish capital on a dark November evening. The single is totally self-produced in the age old punk rock DIY way. We decided not to fall into debt with the companies who would happily exchange our master tapes for their financial burden. We got off our arses, hit the studio and stumbled across the genius that is Andy Bell. After a very fractured Covid-related programme of recording, we finally arrived with 12 tracks for the LP, Warsaw Skyline being the first single to be taken from it.
In order to retain our truly independent approach, we decided that rather than throw money at established music video producers, we would invite Film degree students from Northern School of Art to make twelve individual films to accompany the record.
They were given the LP and the clear instruction to interpret the song themselves and make the film they thought best reflected the song. We described the process as; ‘CIGAR CIGAR have written the soundtrack to a film you have not yet produced, go and make the film.’
We would like to think that in our own small way we have offered a bit of support to the generation who have lost the most due to the recent restrictions.
